August is traditionally one of the quietest months for van registrations here in the UK, however strong figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) have revealed a healthy increase of 1.5% (15,619).

Lighter vans did particularly well last month with 3,049 registered within the period; mid-range models (between 2.0 and 2.5 tonnes) saw plus 39.9%, but 4x4 saw a dramatic decline of -92.4%. Ford continues to lead the way selling 31,868 Transit Customs and 16,736 Transits.

Mercedes-Benz saw 13,045 Sprinter’s registered.

Overall, demand for vans is higher than originally expected and this is predicted to stay relatively stable throughout the rest of the year.
