The Ford Transit Custom has driven away with the spoils at the Hannover Commercial Vehicle show, having been named ‘International Van of the Year’ by a 24-strong judging panel.
The all new Transit Custom is taking the commercial vehicle market by storm, receiving strong praise for its versatility, and in particular its styling, driveability, load carrying ability and safety features as well as its low cost of ownership.
The award was attributed to the Transit on a points system, with the Custom accumulating an impressive score of 117 out of a possible 133 points. In second place was the Dacia Dokker, whilst the Mercedes-Benz Citan claimed the final spot on the podium.
Pieter Wieman, chairman of the International Van of the Year jury, said: “The van has a car-like exterior and interior, driving dynamics which are very close to a passenger car and, notwithstanding that, is a very functional and practical vehicle. Ford has paid a lot of attention to the active and passive safety aspects of the new model, and to reducing the cost of ownership.”
The award could not have come at a better time for Ford, with its presentation on the evening of the first press day at the show. The company is also displaying both the Transit Custom and Connect as a sign of the progress they have so far made in the complete redesign of its European commercial vehicle line-up.
Wiemen continued: “The Transit Custom has set new standards with regard to styling, drivability and load-carrying ability. Ford has succeeded in building a complete new light van on its global commercial vehicle platform with the use of proven driveline and chassis components.
