The big change since this 2017 article: ranges are now quoted in WLTP, not NEDC
The older Kangoo ZE and Master ZE launch coverage used NEDC range figures. Today, vans use WLTP testing for official consumption and range reporting, which is designed to be more representative than NEDC.
What Renault sells now: Kangoo Van E-Tech electric and Master E-Tech electric
Renault’s current UK electric van line-up includes:
Renault Kangoo Van E-Tech electric (small van)
Renault’s latest Kangoo electric van is sold in the UK as Kangoo Van E-Tech electric. Renault’s UK brochure quotes up to 186 miles WLTP (depending on version), with a load volume up to 4.2m³ and payload up to 975kg on certain versions.
Renault’s UK business site also lists the Kangoo Van E-Tech electric range and version information (trim and pricing can vary).
Renault Master E-Tech electric (large van)
Renault’s current large electric van is the Master E-Tech electric, listed with an 87kWh battery and up to 285 miles electric range (Renault UK quotes this as an “up to” figure). Renault also highlights rapid charging capability, with around 38 minutes to recover 80% range on a public rapid charger (depending on conditions).
Is an electric van right for you? A practical UK checklist
1) Match the van to your daily duty cycle
- Typical daily mileage (and your worst-case day)
- Where the van is parked for long periods (ideal for overnight charging)
- How much motorway driving you do (often higher energy use than urban routes)
2) Check payload and conversions
EV vans can be heavier than diesel equivalents, so confirm:
- Payload after adding racking, lining, canopies, tool storage, tow bars, etc.
- Whether your common loads risk pushing you over limits
3) Plan charging like you plan fuel
- Home/yard charging (often the cheapest and simplest)
- Depot charging for fleets (driver behaviour and bay discipline matters)
- Public rapid charging for top-ups (time and route planning)
4) Factor in UK grants (if eligible)
The UK Plug-in Van Grant can reduce the purchase price of eligible electric vans. GOV.UK states:
- Up to £2,500 for eligible “small vans” (under 2,500kg GVW, among other criteria)
- The government has confirmed the van and truck grant will continue through to at least 2027, with future-year levels to be confirmed
(Eligibility is vehicle-specific — always check the current GOV.UK list.)
5) Insurance: what to tell your insurer
When switching to an electric van, be ready to confirm:
- Where it’s kept overnight and any added security
- Any modifications/conversions (racking, refrigerated units, signage, etc.)
- Your business use (own goods vs courier/hire & reward, mileage, drivers)
Accurate details help avoid delays if you need to claim.
