Citroen spark interest in electric range with new Berlingo

Citroen are looking to create a spark at this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show in the Birmingham NEC. The newcomer is due to be one of the star attractions on the Citroen stand, where several other Citroen LCVs will also be launched between 9th and 11th April.

The unique layout of the Berlingo Electrique means there is no compromise on load space, with the electric motor situated under the bonnet and the lithium-ion battery pack under the load deck. This ensures the Electrique offers the same 3.7 cubic metre load compartment and 636kg payload capability as the stock diesel-powered Berlingo van.

One of the major concerns often expressed about electric vehicles is their limited coverage, but with a quoted range of 106 miles and an 8.5-hour recharge time using a domestic socket, the majority of small and medium sized businesses should find this sufficient for their daily work schedule. There is also the option for an 80 per cent fast charge in 35 minutes using a specific 380V three-phase terminal.

Although Citroen are withholding some of the details about the Electrique until the grand unveiling, they have confirmed that the van contains eco-driving information technology, a deceleration and braking energy recovery system, an electric heating system with an eco-mode to limit energy consumption and a hill-start assist system coupled to the ESP.

Another Citroen newcomer is the six-seat HDi 125 six-speed manual L1H1 1200 Crew Van version of the Dispatch model, as well as two new models in the Relay range, which have the addition of Stop and Start technology to further increase their fuel economy and reduce CO2 emissions by 5g/km.
