Philip Hammond Threatens Van Drivers with Higher Tax

Philip Hammond has been accused of declaring war on the British diesel van driver after he announced his plan to review the ‘appropriate’ tax treatment on diesel vehicles in a bid to improve city air quality.

Further Van Tax Changes to Come

In the most recent Budget, the Chancellor said new van tax changes could be seen as soon as the Autumn Statement in November. Many journalists have reported this may be his way of encouraging motorists to switch to more environmentally friendly vehicles, such as electric vans.

Tory Politician Charlie Eliphicke has said:

“Pollution is a serious matter. [...] Yet it’s wrong to demonise the owners of diesel vans and cars. Any move to jack up diesel taxes would be a real blow to White Van Man.”
